Social Services of Dominican Churches (SSID)

Servicio Social de Iglesias Dominicanas

Social Services of the Dominican Churches (SSID) is a Christian organization working in the Dominican Republic since 1962. SSID works to address the needs of the poorest through community organizing, educational projects, and leadership.  SSID is a Christian, not-for-profit organization with ecumenical support.

Their vision is that the elements will inspire the people to effect change in their own communities.  They provide services in education, health, agriculture, and food security, micro-finance and micro-credit, fish farming, access to water, community development, emergency response, and Dominican-Haitian dialogue.

These educational projects and programs in rural communities have helped increase the quality of life for many in the Dominican Republic.  Because of the work that SSID does with families and agriculture, there is better access to fresh vegetables, and there are fewer children malnourished. Children are now well-fed, so they can learn more in school and will have a brighter future. It is all a part of SSID’s holistic approach to community development.
